Jones Act
The Merchant Marine Act of 1920 (Codified in 2006) is a federal statute that regulates maritime commerce in U.S. Waters.
It includes a section on Seaman’s rights which lays out the steps and restrictions for injured maritime employees to recover compensation for their injuries from their employers. Victims of maritime accidents can seek money damages when their injuries are the result of the careless or negligent acts of an employer or coworker.
